Halloween in the Philippines

It may vary in culture but we are amazingly different. Its unique the way we celebrate Halloweens unlike other countries. If you think halloween in the US is spooky, you better checkout they pinoys do in the Philippines. We dont go door to door for trick or treats. You can’t find any spooky decorations at any areas or homes unlike in the US.

In the Philippines, we called it “Araw ng mga patay or known as Undas”. On this occasion, families, relatives and friends visit the cemetery where their love ones is laid to rest. Filipinos love parities, the cemetery becomes a party atmosphere, rather than a solemn celebration. This is not unusual at all for the Pinoys, where you can hear loud music within the cemetery. People gathered together, bringing some foods and drinks. Its like a picnic though, yet in the cemetery.

Only in the Philippines were people flock together in groups and stay overnight(some) in the cemeteries. Other countries, you cannot find any single people going to cemetery to celebrate All saints day and All souls day.

Also, only in the Philippines were you can find graves piled up like a hallow block, some could reach up to 20ft high and that could have 6 graves piled up. So, if someone is about to be burried, they use ladder to climb up just to reach the peak where the coffin is to be inserted.

That is what tradition differs from the other countries which we have and they dont have. Its how unique we are and spooky halloween in our own way.
